Mission Statement

The focus of the Certified Family Education program is to provide human service workers--especially those in social service and addictionology--with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to promote family preservation.  Certified Educators utilize their skills and experiences in a number of educational and clinical settings, including: community family support gatherings, hospital settings, residential treatment centers and family living skill programs.  Course work is designed to augment already acquired family intervention skills and further enable qualified human service professionals to more effectively work with families in a variety of settings which emphasize all aspects of family life.

Philosophy

The Certified Family Educator pProgram adheres to the concept that "To support family solidarity--emotionally, psychologically, socially, and spiritually--family members must have the desire and determination to become consciously aware of behaviors which promote interdependent relating and personal growth among its members; and, have the knowledge that such behaviors have a ripple effect on the society as a whole."  We believe, therefore, that education is an act of stimulating action potential by providing families with the necessary tools for change while embracing the notion that "prevention is an act of today, not of tomorrow."
